Megibung at Kunyit Restaurant by The Anvaya Beach Resort, Bali

On my last trip to Bali, I got the opportunity to try a Balinese unique tradition called Megibung. It is actually similar to bancakan or botram in West Java. Eating together with your loved ones, or closed friends and relatives with banana leaves as the plate, and our hand as spoon and fork, with delicious traditional Balinese food is definitely an unforgettable experience. Based on this tradition, Kunyit Restaurant presents you Megibung Package with modern presentation. Kunyit means turmeric, it is one of the main ingredients in Balinese cuisine.

First of all, I am going to show you a glimpse of Kunyit Restaurant interior. Kunyit Restaurant located infront of the resort. Open daily for visitors for breakfast from 6AM to 10AM, while lunch and dinner is served from 12AM to 11PM. Nestled in the busy Kartika street of Kuta. It has an easy access.

The stunning interior divided into indoor and outdoor area. The high ceiling, wooden pillars, tall doors, surrounded by big trees and a touch of traditional Balinese furnishing dominated with warm and earthy tone is just easy to the eyes. Everything look modern, sleek and chic.

As a food and travel blogger, I am really happy because there are plenty of sunlight everywhere. You know that awful moment when the restaurant is so dark and not enough natural light available? Bad photos are the result! This issue will definitely not hapenning in Kunyit.

As we sat at our chairs, the polite waiters and waitresses serve each of us with a big ceramic bowl. I was stunned, I thought the bowl was for eating. Fortunately it was used for the "hand wash ritual". They prepare a clay water jug (kendi) and then pour the content (cold water) to our hands. The big bowl basically used to catch the falling water.

Megibung in Kunyit Restaurant served with small takir ( folded banana leaves), and contains of variety of Balinese food. 1 package of Megibung for 2 pax cost IDR 356k ++ up to IDR 375k ++.

A set of Paket Tenganan served at our table. Sate Ayam (Chicken satay), Sate Lilit ( Balinese fish satay), Be Siap Mepanggang Sambal Matah (Grilled chicken with sambal matah), Pepes Ikan ( steamed fish wrapped in banana leaves), Udang Bakar (grilled prawn), vegetables and accompanied by Sambal Bongkot (torch ginger sambal) and Sambal Terasi. As I tried their menu, I can taste fresh ingredients, salty and spicy flavour, and the richness of spices, just as the authentic Balinese cuisine characteristic.

Following the main course, we must spare some space for their dessert platter. Fruit, fried banana with sesame, black glutinous rice porridge, and some Indonesian traditional cakes.

You can also order their a la carte menus, try their signature dishes : Bebek Goreng Kunyit, Bebek Betutu, Oxtail Soup, Prawn Laksa, and many other.

As a closure, I have a wonderful dining experience at Kunyit Restaurant, they successfully deliver the traditional Indonesian and Balinese cuisine authentic flavours.

Have a great day, all. See you on my next post!
